Aveda Scalp Remedy Dandruff Solution Spray Review

Hi everyone,

A few months ago I was really struggling with a dry and itchy scalp which I was baffled by as it’s not something I have had a problem with before. I have had some trouble with eczema behind my ears and on my neck in the past so I just put it down to something similar to this but was unsure how to solve it. Normally I would use E45 cream or something similar to help with any dry patches but with it being my scalp it was more difficult and I didn’t want to make my hair look greasy.

After some research online I came across the Aveda Scalp Remedy Dandruff Solution Spray which has some fantastic reviews so I decided to order it. I am now onto my second bottle of this product and it has done wonders for my scalp and completely got rid of any dryness.

To use, you simply spray onto affected areas after washing your hair. I part my hair and spray the solution directly onto my scalp and then rub it in to try and minimise the amount of product going onto my hair. The spray has quite any oily feel to it so I was worried that my hair was going to look greasy after using it but I didn’t have any problems with this at all. It massages into the skin really well and you can’t feel any oiliness or residue left behind after use.

My scalp felt better from the first time I used the spray and after 3 or 4 days the dryness was significantly reduced and it has now gone completely. If I stop using the product for more than a week then I do start to feel the tightness and dryness returning so I’m not too sure about the long term benefits of using this spray as it doesn’t seem to stop the problem all together. Having said that if I stopped using lip balm or moisturiser for more than a week then my skin and lips would also go dry so I’m just happy that this spray solves the issue to start with.

The scent is something that I can’t really put my finger on but I think I would describe it as a herbal scent. It’s not my favourite smell in the world but it doesn’t bother me either as you can’t really smell it once it’s on the hair and it seems to fade quite quickly.

It was getting to a point where I would feel self-conscious of my dry scalp and was worried that people could see dandruff flakes in my hair. I’m so happy I found this product as I had tried loads of different things and nothing seemed to work until I used this spray.

Have you ever struggled with a dry scalp? Which products did you use to combat it?

Thanks for reading,
Hannah xx

  1. I have been really lucky as I never suffered from dandruff or dry scalp. However I did suffer from dry, flaky hairline on my forehead area a couple of months ago. I've no idea why or how it happened but I applied Josie Maran Argan Oil on the area and it healed by itself. I just use one drop and very lightly apply it to the hairline area.

I hope you'll find a long term remedy soon, it must be frustrating for you.

  2. @Shireen L. Platt Thank you :) I hope I find something more long term soon too but for now this is doing the trick and keeping the problem at bay! I'll have to look into the Josie Maran Argan Oil and see if that can help :) x
