Dermalogica Oil Control Lotion

Hi everyone,

My skin type is oily combination but I would say recently my t-zone has been particularly oily. It can be so frustrating to get to lunch time and find your makeup has slid half way down your face and is looking a lot more worse for wear than it did when you left the house. On top of that oily skin can mean you're more prone to acne which I have had my fair share of over the years. That's why when I discovered the Dermalogica Oil Control Lotion I thought it would be worth a shot.

I have to admit I have been skeptical about this product and really wasn't convinced that it would work. Applying the lotion twice a day should help combat shine and regulate excess oil production without the skin becoming overly dry. This is done through the ingredient Meadow Sweet as well as Salicylic Acid to help clear blocked follicles. Enantia Chlorantha Bark Extract provides the long term effect of decreasing the amount of sebum which is produced meaning that the benefits of this product should be on going.

So did it actually work? Well I have been using the Dermalogica Oil Control Lotion for a good month or so now and I have been pleasantly surprised. The lotion itself absorbs into the skin and dries very quickly but it does leave a kind of layer on your skin that you can feel when you touch it. It's not sticky, greasy, oily or anything like that and it doesn't really bother me as I tend to forget about it / can't feel it anymore once I have my makeup on. Also, just to be able to get to lunch without looking like a shiny Christmas bauble is worth it for me. I thought it would be worth mentioning though as this may not be to everyone's liking and I can understand why some may not like the feel of it.

The big test for me is a long day at work as normally by lunch time I am having to touch up my makeup and apply more powder. This lotion hasn't been able to eliminate this entirely but I have definitely seen and improvement and the shine has been kept at bay! As there are meant to be continued benefits to using this, I am hopeful that I will carry on seeing an improvement and the amount of shine will reduce further over time. Fingers crossed anyway!

I have seen varied prices for the Dermalogica Oil Control Lotion ranging from in the early twenties to almost £30. I paid £23.00 for this 59ml tub from Logical Beauty but as you only need a really tiny amount, I think it will actually be good value for money and last a really long time.

Overall I'm really happy that I came across this product and am hopeful it will have lasting benefits for my skin. Have you tried this product before? Do you have trouble with oily skin?

Thanks for reading,
Hannah xx

  2. I have dry and sensitive skin so this wouldn't be great for me. I do have annoying oily eyelids though and if you can recommend an awesome primer I am all ears!

  7. I've never tried any of Dermalogica's products before, but this product sounds great and one I may have to check out because I have the same skin type as you. I like the fact that it creates somewhat of a barrier, I'm sure creating a nicer, smooth application for makeup, making it last longer! Thanks so much for sharing, beauty, and I hope you have the most amazing week ahead!

  8. I occasionally experience oiliness and greasiness depending on the time of year. It's so frustrating because I don't like having to touch up my skin during the day. This product has intrigued me for a while now. They are a bit pricey, but it's good to know that they do work!
