Nail Polish Collection - Blues and Purples

Hi everyone,

Way back in November I started a series sharing my nail polish collection with you and today I am here with my second installment. My first post featured all my berry shades and in that post I asked which colours you guys would like to see next. The lovely Jalisa from The Style Contour (you must check out her blog for some amazing style tips!) suggested blue shades but as I don't have that many blue nail polishes, I have added some greens and purples to group together the shades that I have the least amount of polishes in.

so lets get started....

Left: Topshop - Leigh, Right: Barry M - Huckleberry

Left: Barry M - Sugar Apple, Right: Marks and Spencer nail polish - Teal
Left: Ciate - Headliner, Right: Boots No.7 - Totally Teal
Left: Marks and Spencer - Turquoise, Right: Avon - Blue Flare
Left: Avon - Twilight Blue, Right: Tanya Burr Midnight Sparkles
Left: Boots No.7 - Betty Blues, Right: Avon - Midnight Plum
Left: Avon Matte Nail Polish - Violetta, Right: Marks and Spencer - Mauve
Left: Essie - Warm and Toasty Turtleneck, Right: Barry M - Prickly Pear
I think out of all the nail varnishes here I would pick Essie in Warm and Toasty Turtleneck and the Marks and Spencer nail polish in Mauve as my favourites. They are both more towards the purple and pink side of the scale but these are the types of shades that I am always drawn to. I bought the Essie one when I was in New York and couldn't believe how much cheaper the brand is over there! In the UK you can pay around £10 at Boots for an Essie nail polish but I found them for just a couple of dollars each when I was on holiday.

I have to admit that the greener shades such as Barry M in Sugar Apple and Boots No.7 in Totally Teal aren't ones that I reach for very often. It's good to have a couple of options to hand though in case you fancy a change or have an outfit that it will go really well with. I know Sugar Apple is quite a popular nail polish and I bought it after reading tons of good reviews of it and it is nice, but just not one of my go-to polishes.

Do you often wear blues and purples on your nails? Which nail polishes would you recommend?

Thanks for reading and I hope you're all having a lovely weekend,

Hannah xx

  1. I tend not to wear blue polishes that often either - I much prefer pinks and reds. That said, you're right that it's nice to have options just in case! That Essie shade is beautiful! x

    1. I don't know what it is about the pink and red shads that I just prefer more but I don't often tend to reach for blues and greens. Maybe it's just that I am very much a girly girl and I am always drawn to pink anything! x

  2. I love the Teal No7 one! Great minds - I think I have the Barry M shades too, they're such pretty Spring shades. I tend to have lots of pinks and coral shades but do love darker colours for the winter. Jalisa is such an inspiration; I'm loving all the navy and bright purple colours on her page.
    Thanks for sharing,
    Jaz xoxo

    1. Barry M make some really nice nail polishes and they are so cheap too. I always end up buying way too many, especially when they are on offer! I completely agree, Jalisa has been rocking the blues and purples recently :) x

  3. Ooo these shades are all so lovely! I really like blue shades, but I tend to go for pastels :) This post is making me want to try out more teal shades though.

  4. I love the way you've swatched and shared your collection, so unique! I tend to lean towards warmer shades, such as pinks and nudes, though there's no denying the occasional appeal of a bold blue manicure! :)

  8. You sure have some nail polish collection. I have a very small nail polish collection as I don't tend to wear a lot of polishes but I have a couple blues. I personally prefer nudes and warmer shades though, nothing too bright and bold. Love your swatches and those are some pretty shades as well. xo

    1. I need to cut down on the amount of polishes that I buy as more often than not they end up drying out before I have had the chance to use them properly! Nude shades are another that I don't have many polishes in but I really do like a nude manicure as I think it looks really classy and also goes with any outfit! x

  9. I generally gravitate towards plum shades when I do wear nail polish which isn't too often. I love the Midnight Plum one and Warm and Toasty Turtleneck. Sooo pretty! Also, I really wonder how they come up with these nail polish names haha

    1. I would absolutely love the job of naming nail polishes and actually any makeup product for that matter! It would be so fun but I'm sure whoever comes up with them also has other responsibilities as part of their job haha x

  19. Yay!!! I'm so glad you decided to share some of your favorite blue polishes with us, along with some other gorgeous shades! I really love the first one from Top Shop and Avon's Blue Flare, such pretty blues. I've never tried any of Top Shop's polishes before, but love their lipsticks, so I'll have to check them out! As for the other shades, I really love that Warm and Toasty shade by Essie as well, I'll have to see if I can find it because I don't have anything quite like it in my collection. Thanks so much for sharing, beauty, and I hope you're having the most amazing week so far!

    1. I need to use that Topshop polish more as I think I have only worn it once and it is a really pretty shade. Warm and Toasty Turtleneck is definitely a favourite of mine and I was so pleased when I came across it as I had been looking for a nail polish in just that colour for so long! I hope you're having a lovely weekend :) x

  22. Loved your post and blog and I saw your about me picture, you look so sweet and beautiful! Sorry for my delay to answer, I normally read posts around the weekend! I loved your nail polishes and blue and green weren't my normal tones either, and I normally like a base coat on my nails, BUT since 2014 I started using more and more colorful nail polishes and now I am into nail art! Before, people always paid compliments to my shoes and now every week they comment about the nail art I show! It completely changed the comments. People always ask me how I do it - no big deal, I have a talented manicurist. Alone I couldn't do anything. I loved the Turquoise Marks & Spencer nail polish you have! I would love to try it! Wishing you a great weekend!

    1. Thank you so much for your lovely comment Denise :) I absolutely love nail art but I am useless at doing it myself and need lots more practice! I have acrylic nails which I get done professionally but the person that does them isn't really into nail art. She is amazing at getting the acrylics just right but if I want anything fancy she normally isn't the person to ask. x
