Clarins Instant Light Lip Perfector

Hi everyone,

Clarins is a brand that I always tend to overlook when it comes to makeup and is only really on my radar when I’m looking at skincare. However, my friend absolutely swears by it and in particular loves the Instant Light Natural Lip Perfector which she even used as her lip product of choice on her wedding day. When I was out shopping with her a couple of weeks ago she talked me into taking a look and I ended up parting with my cash to buy the lip gloss in the shade 01 Rose Shimmer.

The Lip Perfector is described as a gel and to me feels a bit like a cross between a balm and a lip gloss which I love. It isn’t at all sticky and feels lovely and smooth on the lips as well as having a lovely scent to it, although I’m not really sure what I would describe it as! The balm/gloss aims to hydrate lips which I feel it does really well and as someone who suffers from dry and chapped lips, this is a huge draw for me. The colour is a rosy, pale pink shade but it is quite sheer so I think I will mostly use it layered over a lipstick and next time I might go for one of the other shades that look a little more pigmented.

The sponge applicator was something I was a bit unsure of at first which the assistant at Clarins seemed surprised about. She assured me that most people really like it once they’ve tried it and I have to agree. I find it handy for applying just the right out of product and you avoid the messiness you get from using a balm or gloss that you have to apply with your fingers.

The only issue I have had with this product is that the first one I bought didn’t work and I had to take it back and swap it. At first I thought it was me that wasn't doing it right as I was squeezing the tube and nothing was coming out. After texting my friend to see where I was going wrong she assured me it must be a fault with the one I had got so I took it back. I had absolutely no trouble changing it though and the lady I spoke to on the counter was lovely and said that she had never known this to happen before. I wouldn’t let this put me off buying it again as I’m sure it was just a one off but I would perhaps recommend testing it to make sure it works before leaving the shop.

At £18 each this product is a little on the pricey side and although I do really like it I’m not sure I would rebuy it or if I did I would pick one of the other shades that perhaps provides a bit more colour. I’m not disappointed with it but I do think there are products out there that do the same sort of thing that I like better.

Have you tried the Clarins Instant Light Lip Perfector? What did you think?

Thanks for reading,

Hannah xx

  1. Hmm, I'm on the fence about this. It seems like a lot of money for something that can be easily replaced by a drugstore version. :-/

  2. @Shireen L. Platt I'm the same really; I like it but I think it's a bit expensive for what it is! x
