Best Beauty Finds of 2016

Hi everyone,

Happy New Year! I hope you all had fun last night ringing in the New Year and celebrating the start of 2017. I am hoping this year is going to be better than 2016 and although I haven't made any resolutions or anything like that, I am just aiming to have as much fun as possible and make sure I look after myself a little more :) Have you made any plans for 2017 or any resolutions?

For today's post I thought I would look back at some of my best beauty discoveries of 2016 and share my recommendations with you guys. These are all products that I have repurchased and have firmly cemented themselves into my skincare and makeup routines.

Starting with skincare, one of my favourite products of the year has to be Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish. This was a gift from my boyfriend at Christmas 2015 and I know I am so late to the party with it, but it is simply amazing. It removes all my makeup like no other and my skin always feels so soft and looks healthy and glowing after using it. I can see that this will be my go-to cleanser for a very long time to come. In terms of skincare, I also have to give a mention to Soap & Glory Whipped Clean. I discovered this around summer time and it has been a life saver for helping to keep my skin hydrated. I am so lazy when it comes to using body lotions and butters so this is a great alternative if you're like me as it can be used so quickly and easily in the shower.

Summer was also the time that I came across Sunkissed Once a Week Self Tan Mousse. Now although this does not last a whole week on me (I usually get around 4 or 5 days) I really love the colour that it gives and it never leaves any streaky or orange patches. For the price, I think this is a really good product but if you would like to read more, I have written a full review here.

If I had to pick one skincare item that I am so pleased that I discovered, it has to been Dermalogica Oil Control Lotion. I won't go on about this too much as I have already recently reviewed it on my blog but this is the one skincare item that has made the biggest difference to my skin and really helped the condition of it overall. I hope to give more Dermalogica products a try throughout 2017 as if they are anything like this lotion, they are sure to be a winner!

For makeup, two products that probably won't come as a shock are the Bourjois Radiance Reveal Concealer and the Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector. Both products have been a huge hit in the beauty world and it's not difficult to see why. I have also included the BareMinerals BarePro foundation which was a product that I wasn't entirely sure on to begin with. However, since having surgery on my cheek I have been thinking about the makeup and products that I put on my skin a lot more and have been going for a more natural look. There will be a post on this coming up in January so keep your eyes peeled over the next few weeks if you would like to know more :)

Benefit relaunched their entire eyebrow collection in 2016 and my favourite products are the Gimme Brow and Ka-Brow. I usually use the Ka-Brow to get the shape I want for my brows and then fill them in a little more with Gimme Brow which gives a really natural but defined look. Lipstick wise, my favourites have been Rimmel Kate Moss in shades 01 and 55 My Nude. The nude option is great for every day wear while the deep red shade is one I have been reaching for in the evenings for nights out. For perfume, I have to give a nod to Dior Miss Dior which I just love and has been my go-to fragrance all year.

I haven't included any fashion favourites here or else this already very long post would be heading towards book proportions, however, I did want to mention crawler earrings. I have been obsessed with them this year as I am too chicken to pierce my ears any more but love the look. These are two of  my favourites, both from Accessorize, and people always ask me about them whenever I wear them.

A huge well done and thank you for sticking with me if you have made it to the end of this post. Narrowing down all the best products that I have come across in a year is always a challenge but I hope you liked my picks. I'd love to hear what your favourite or worst products of 2016 have been so please leave your links or let me know in the comments :)

I hope everyone has a fantastic 2017 and it's a year to remember (for all the right reasons).

Happy New Year and thank you for reading,

Hannah xx

  1. The Boujois Concealer is one of my favourites too, its brilliant under the eyes. I haven't tried any of the other products you mentioned so my 2017 products to try list has just started ha ;) I've been meaning to try BareMinerals products for ages to use more natural ingredients on my skin!
Hope you have a wonderful 2017 and can't wait to see your posts this year :) x

    1. The Bourjois concealer is so good and one of the stand out products for me in 2016. I would recommend giving BareMinerals a try, I wasn't so sure about them at first as it doesn't provide the coverage I'm used to but I have been sticking with it and slowly getting more used to it :) I hope you have a fab 2017 too and thank you for all your comments Natasha x

  4. Miss Dior really is a beautiful fragrance and such a lovely one to enter the new year wearing :) Also, OH my gosh finally someone else who also hasn't pierced their ears. I've just bought some ear crawlers (from Accessorize!) but definitely would like some more embellished/striking ones like these :) Happy New Year!!

    1. Haha it does feel like everyone has been piercing their ears a lot and I love the look but after a bit of a nightmare with my first piercings I have been well and truly put off! Crawler earrings are such a fab and easy way to get the same look though and Accessorize have been doing some great ones recently too, I just bought two more this week in the sale! Happy New Year to you too Gabrielle and thank you so much for your comments :) x

  8. I have sworn a long time ago that I will never splurge on cleansers but I broke that vow end of last year. LOL! Now I have my eyes on the Liz Earle cleanser, do you think it'll work for dry skin?

    1. I think cleanser is one thing that is worth spending a little more on though as it's so important to look after your skin (that's what I tell myself anyway!). I have oily combination skin but I do think the Cleanse and Polish would work on dry skin too as it leaves my skin feeling really soft and hydrated. Liz Earle also say that it is suitable for all skin types so hopefully you should be good to go :) x

  9. Happy New Year, beautiful! May this year be your absolute best yet! I didn't make any resolutions, rather goals and personal challenges, such as not stressing out so much and truly living in the moment, which the two often go hand in hand for me. As for these products, they all sound wonderful. Some are new to me, while others I've heard so much about, such as the Kate Moss lipsticks and Benefit's brow collection. That cleanser your boyfriend gifted you with sounds amazing, I'll have to try it, as you've said it's amazing at getting rid of any makeup residue. Thanks so much for sharing, beauty, and I hope you're enjoying the first week of the new year so far!

    1. I definitely need to try and stress less too and stop thinking about things that I need to get done which makes me rush things and stops me enjoying the moment. It can be so tricky but this year I need to try and switch off a bit more I think! The Liz Earle cleanser is so good and something I would absolutely recommend and the Benefit brow collection too :) You'll have to let me know how you get on if you do give any of them a try. Good luck with all your goals for 2017 Jalisa and I hope it is an amazing year for you x

  11. Hahahaha! Yes to crawler earrings! I do the same thing, I'm way too chicken shit to get extra piercings so thank God for the faux trend. I've been loving sick a faux nose ring that I wear occasionally, people always think it's real. There's no way I'd get that one pierced for sure. I love those lipstick shades, the nude in particular looks divine. I've tried a matte nude from that line before but it was so drying I haven't gone back since. But I might be convinced otherwise now.

Happy New Year gorgeous. Hope 2017 will be all you dream of and more.

    1. Definitely faking it when it comes to the piercings is the way to go! I had a bad experience when I first got my lobes pierced and it has put me off getting any more for the foreseeable future. Happy New Year to you too and I hope you have an amazing 2017 x

  21. I actually have never tried the Boujois Concealer but after reading your posts and the comments it sounds like such a great product. I don't think it's as big in the US maybe? I do love the benefit brow products though as well as any Becca Shimmering Skin Perfecter!
