GHD Curve Creative Wand Review

Hi everyone,

I have always been really terrible at curling my hair, especially if I try to do it with my straighteners! I don't know how people do it as mine always ends up a frizzy, zig-zag style which just looks a mess. I then end up having to start from scratch and wash it again in order to get it back to normal. I have an old curling wand that I have tried to use as well but it takes forever to heat up and then you have to leave each section of hair on the curler for about 5 minutes before it does anything which is less than ideal. At Christmas, I was at my whit's end with trying to make my hair look decent for parties and nights out so with my Christmas money I decided to splash out on the GHD Curve Creative Wand.

I have to say I was so impressed with the delivery service as I ordered the curler late one evening and it was here by lunch time the next day, and there was no charge for delivery either. I was also able to get the Copper Luxe Gift Set (normally £120) with £20 off and then an extra 10% off with an offer code - bargain! Included in the set is the GHD Curve Creative Wand itself, a heat resistant travel bag and a Nails Inc copper nail polish which is just so pretty.

The wand itself has a 28mm barrel which tapers down to 23mm at the tip which is meant to allow you to create a variety of different looks with the one wand. It also heats up in a matter of seconds and has a sound indicator as well as a light to let you know that it is ready. One of the features which I really like is that it will automatically turn itself off after 30 minutes of not being used so that you can rest assured that your house isn't going to burn down from accidentally leaving it on! I can't tell you how many times I have had to rush back and check that I have turned my straighteners off so this is a God send for me.

As someone who is really not good at curling their hair, I have found this wand surprising easy to use and I have gotten better with practice. The first time I did it I washed my hair and then just blasted it with the hairdryer before going in with the curling wand. I found that my hair ended up a bit bigger than I would have liked when doing this though so now I either blow dry or actually straighten my hair before using the curler. This helps to tame it down a little so that I can get the look I want. Most people probably won't need to do this but I can't explain how much my hair has a life of it's own and needs a lot of work to keep it in shape!

You only need to hold the wand on the hair for about ten seconds which has meant that I am able to curl my hair so much quicker now. I have found that it is easier to achieve more of a wavy look than tight curls but for me this is more the style that I am after. I don't know if it is just because I am new to this but if I wanted to achieve a tighter curl I would probably look to use a different wand.

Overall, I am really happy that I decided to treat myself to this curler and it makes doing my hair so much easier. Have you tried the GHD Curve Creative Wand? Which other curling wands would you recommend?

Thanks for reading,

Hannah xx

  2. have always wanted to try the GHD Curve but wasn't sure if it was worth it, luckily I can curl with my GHD Straighteners but 20% of the time it goes a bit wrong and I get frustrated lol. I will definitely be looking into this, I really like the copper collection :)

  8. You look amazing in the picture, Hannah and is that your other half? Beautiful couple! I have zero luck with curling my hair either and maybe it's because I need to invest in a proper tool? Great review!

    1. Thank you Shireen :) that is my other half, he hates having his picture taken so this is a rare one of the two of us! It has definitely helped me having a proper tool to use on my hair and I find it a lot less stressful now thankfully! It might be worth looking into if you struggle as well as it has saved me so much time! x

  9. First off, you look absolutely gorgeous, as does your hair! I've never heard of this brand before, but their delivery service and your results are so impressive! I love the fact that they didn't charge for next day delivery and how perfect to include a nail polish, even more so for a polish lover like yourself; I'm sure you were excited! Thanks for sharing, beauty, and I hope you have a wonderful week ahead!

  10. The results of this look fab! I tend to use my ancient GHD straighteners (I swear they're probably the first pair ever made!) and then I brush out the curls to get a softer wave. The Babyliss Boutique styling wand also gives a nice, loose wave effect but the GHDs are quicker! This tool really does look interesting though. x

    1. That just goes to show how good GHDs are though if you have had them for so long and they are still going :) I have heard good things about the Babyliss curlers so I may look into their products if I need anything else. x

  11. Loved to know about this GHD curler, since I need it in a different place - I usually have two of the same devices, to leave in some places. I liked to know that you ordered that in one evening and by the next day you got it! Delivery is something very important to me. I loved the style and the hair is sooo beautiful, also a nice outfit, sweet picture! I also liked the copper nail polish very much! I hope you have a very nice week!

  12. I've heard great things about this styler but like you I am useless at curling my hair and have used so many tools. I think I need to practice more and not just get in a tizz when I try and do it on a night out. I would be lost without my GHD straighteners, so think I'll take the plunge and invest in the curler too.
Your hair looks gorgeous, thanks for your honest review.

    1. I know the feeling as I used to get so stressed when doing my hair, especially for a night out. I'd spend literally hours trying to do it only to get stressed with it and wash it all out and leave it straight! So far I have had no problems in using this curler and feel more confident that I'll be able to make my hair looo half decent for a night out or special ocassion :) x

  15. I don't get how people do it either. I have long hair and always end up with Annie type curls. I've only recently found a way to curl it using my straightener and it only took me over ten years to figure it out bahahaha

I'm really bad to make curls with a straightener or others.
But no matter what I also try it and sometimes brushing my hair after it doesnt look so bad.

    1. My hair is naturally curly too but it just goes more frizzy and bushy so the curler really helps keep it under control. If you have nice curls though then you probably wouldn't need this :) the nail polish is really pretty isn't it?? It was a really nice little extra. x

  28. I love curling with a wand rather than traditional curling iron. The curls are so much more messy and fun rather than super polished and glam. It's definitely faster too. I like the waves you got here from this wand! It looks so gorgeous! I agree that curling with a straightener is the strangest thing ever. It's easier on someone else but not yourself
