L'oreal True Match Foundation Review

Hi everyone,

For the most part I tend to stick to two foundations, Estee Lauder Double Wear and Nars Sheer Glow and have done for years. However, every now and then something new catches my eye and most recently it was the L’oréal True Match Foundation. I’m not usually big on high street foundations and have yet to find a single one that I have really liked and stuck with. However, having heard amazing things about this L’oréal offering, not least that it is a dupe for the Armani Luminous Silk foundation, I decided to give it a go.

As the name suggests, the L’oréal True Match foundation is meant to match your skin colour and texture like no other as well as being long wearing and comfortable on the skin. There are 21 shades to choose from and I ended up with Golden Ivory which is the 4th lightest option. I noticed that a lot of shades were sold out at both my local Superdrug and Boots which I thought was a good sign and meant that it was a popular choice.

The first thing that I noticed when using the foundation was that it is a little more watery than any of the others I own. I thought the coverage would be quite poor due to the runny consistency but it did better than I thought and I would say it provided a medium coverage. I built it up using two layers to get the finish that I wanted but found it blended really easily and didn’t look caked on at all but natural and glowing. The colour match was also really good and I liked that there are shades with a more yellow undertone as well as ones that are a bit pinker. I have given up the fake tan recently as I have just been lazy and can’t be bothered putting it on when it’s so cold. Therefore, I had to buy a foundation that was quite a bit paler than I would normally use and was worried that I wouldn’t get the colour match as well I have with this one.

The big test for me and any foundation is the staying power and I have the type of skin that makeup just slides off. I was expecting to get home after a long day at work to find myself looking a little worse for wear but I was very pleasantly surprised. Although I have to admit, it wasn’t as in good a shape as when I use some of my other foundations with some patches appearing here and there, but it was much better than I expected. I did touch up with powder at lunch time but this is something I always do, even with my higher end foundations, just to make sure there’s no shine and keep my makeup looking fresh. The other thing I noticed is how comfortable and light weight the foundation felt on my skin which is a nice change after using Double Wear which I feel doesn’t really let your skin breath as much.

Are there any downsides to this foundation I hear you ask? Well it does cling to any dry patches quite badly which is especially an issue for me at the moment as I have been having a bit of trouble with eczema on my face over the past couple of months. It isn’t as bad as Nars Sheer Glow which seems to highlight any dryness like nobody’s business but it’s still a bit of a problem for me. Other than that though I have been pleasantly surprised by this foundation. If I’m honest I went into it with quite low expectations as I have never really got on with high street foundations before and always think it’s worth spending a bit more on a base product. However, I have found myself reaching for L’oreal True Match every day since I bought it and has brought me a welcome change. I can see that I will continue to use this foundation in the future and at just £9.99 it will bring some happy relief to my bank balance.

Have you tried this foundation? If you have, what did you think of it?

Thanks for reading,

Hannah xx

  1. This really does sound like an impressive foundation, though speaking as someone with quite dry skin at this time of year, it may not be for me. Great, thorough review though! :)

    1. Thank you :) it's a shame it clings to dry skin as much as it does as it really is a good foundation and I tend not to like high street ones as well. x

  2. This foundation would be a no go for me because it clings on to dry patches. I don't have many because my skin has been really good but still, anything that highlights dryness is a huge no no for me.

    1. It is a shame that it does this as it does put me off using it some days when my skin is feeling particularly dry. I just have to make sure I exfoliate really well before using it which is a bit of a faff! x

    1. Thank you :) I believe previous packaging had no pump so I think I'd much prefer it as it is now too. x

  4. Great Review! This sounds like a lovely foundation for £10, the coverage and finish sounds good, plus I love the revamped packaging. Bourjois is currently my favourite :)
