What's In My Handbag - Work Edition

Hi everyone,

I recently bought a new handbag for work as my old one was looking a bit tired and I also just felt like a change. I always keep a separate handbag for my work things and one for the weekends and going out as I carry so much junk to work and just find it easier this way. I haven’t written a ‘what’s in my handbag’ post in so long so since I have a new bag and it’s neatly organised (for now) I thought this would be the perfect time to do one.

The handbag itself is from River Island and there were a few reasons that I was drawn to it. I wanted a handbag that had a longer strap allowing you to carry it on your shoulder as it can get heavy from time to time if I am taking paperwork or folders around with me. I also wanted it to have a few pockets as I like to try and keep things organised. The only issue I have with this bag are that the zips aren’t the best and they do get stuck occasionally which can be frustrating, especially if you’re loaded up with things and want to grab something quickly!

Now onto the contents…. I always have my purse to hand as you would probably expect so nothing too exciting there! I also always have my glasses as I have now moved to a job where I am on a computer for a lot of the time so I need them more than ever. I picked up this cute little glasses case when I was in France and always get so many questions about it, mainly from people thinking it is my handbag and I manage to squish everything in!

I also have a small makeup bag which I take to work. In it I keep my Clinique Almost Powder Makeup, a small Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream, a hand sanitizer (this one is called Dancing Waters from Bath and Body Works), Benefit Boi-ing concealer, Jo Malone English Pear and Freesia perfume and finally which ever lipstick or lipgloss I am wearing that day. I find it easiest to keep these things together in a little makeup bag of some sort so they are not falling about in my bag and they are easier to find. I don’t like to splash out on anything too expensive as it will usually end up looking quite battered after a while so this pink sequin one was only about £3 from Primark.

Having an umbrella is a must in the UK and I love this little Scottie dog one which my mum bought me for Christmas. I also have a matching tote bag which is handy now we have to pay for carrier bags in the UK but I don’t take this to work with me and mainly use it on shopping trips.

You will always find my phone in my handbag as I don’t leave the house without it. I have the iPhone 6S which I really love but I do slightly regret now getting the 6S Plus, especially now my iPad seems to be slowly giving up on me. My favourite apps on my phone at the moment are Wunderlist which is great for creating to-do lists and ticking things off as you go and Calm which is a really good app for when you want to switch off and have a bit of me time.

And that is more or less everything! I hope you have enjoyed this post as it is a little bit of a digression from my usual beauty relating blogging. Let me know in the comments if you think I am missing anything that would be handy to have in my handbag and feel free to leave any links to your ‘what’s in my handbag posts’ as I love having a nosy!

Thanks for reading and I hope you have all had a fab weekend  :)

  1. Love this post :) I'm always interested in knowing what other people carry around in their purses. You seem to be a very organized person!! My purse can be a mess sometimes although I prefer the term prepared lol :)

  2. I love reading what others carry in their bag, I am soooo nosy! LOL! The only makeup I ever carry when I was working was lipsticks, it's pretty much the only thing that I ever reapply.

  3. Your handbag has so much sensible stuff in it! Mines just full of old chocolate wrappers :P The bag itself is lovely and the reusable carrier bag with the scotty dogs is so cute too

  4. River Island have been bringing out some really gorgeous accessories lately - as you've proven! Great idea to opt for a longer strap, it'll make carrying out files much easier :) Have a lovely week!

  7. @Jessica Corona Well my handbag is kind of organised now but we will see how long it lasts haha. I like the term prepared, I think that's a good way to describe when things aren't as organised as they could be but you have everything you need and I'll definitely be using it in the future! :)

  8. @Shireen L. Platt I wish I only had to reapply my lipstick but my t-zone can get a little oily so touch ups are required throughout the day sometimes unfortunately. I'm glad you enjoyed the post and I'm completely the same, I love having nosy at what other people have in their handbags and getting some ideas for mine! x

  9. @Rachel-Beth Aw thank you :) I love the scotty dog bag and it's so handy to have now that not everywhere gives carrier bags, my mum made a good choice with that one :) x

  10. @Gabrielle I went off River Island for ages but like you say, recently they have had some fab accessories and I've come across some really nice clothes too. I'm so happy I went for a bag with a longer strap as it has been so much easier than lugging a heavy bag around on the crook of my arm! I hope you're having a lovely week too :) x

  13. @Ileana Haha, my boyfriend goes mad every time he gets in my car and always says that he doesn't know how I can drive around with so much stuff clattering about everywhere! It is probably about time I had a clear out but you just never know when these things are going to come in handy! x

  16. Your handbag is lovely! Looks like a good size as well, most bags nowadays are hardly made to fit folders/papers. I carry the same stuff really, purse, phone (need to get a new one), hand sanitiser, oh headphones, lipstick and lip balm, and water. I need to get a small umbrella, all the ones I brought last year broke the first time I held them up, so I've been sticking to the bigger ones (but they can be such a pain to carry!). Hope you have a good weekend too :)

  18. @Velvet Blush Oh it's so annoying when the little umbrellas break, I have certainly made my way through a fair few over the years. I need to add my headphones to my handbag as they would come in handy when I'm on my lunch break at work but I always take them out for the gym and forget to put them back! Hope you're having a fab week :) x

  19. Sorry to hear the zips aren't ok, that's a thing I really can't stand. The umbrella is so so cute! I will make sure to check these apps, I have an iPhone 4S and it is already too slow. I usually have in my bag a purse, a make-up bag, phone, keys, handkerchiefs, wet wipes, a lip balm and a mini toothbrush, haha.

  20. @Stanislava E. The zips are a bit of a pain, especially if you are in a rush and they won't shut or something. That's one of the things that really annoys me about iPhones, they update the software so much that they end up going really slow in no time! Wet wipes are a good idea to have in your bag too :) x
