Maybelline Falsies Push Up Drama Review

Hi everyone,

I am always on the lookout for a new high street mascara as I have yet to find one that I like as much as some of the more expensive ones that I have used like Lancôme Hypnôse Drama and Benefit Roller Lash. The Maybelline Falsies Push Up Drama mascara caught my eye a few weeks ago when there was a buy one get on half price offer on the brand (I believe this offer is still on at Superdrug). I hadn’t heard anything much about it before or read any reviews so I bought it on a bit of a whim to try out.

Maybelline claim that this mascara will plump and volumise the lashes as well as keep them in place with the styling wax which is included in the formula. Now for me, I have found this mascara to be more lengthening than volumising. The bristles on the wand are fairly spaced apart which separates the lashes and makes them appear longer but also thinner in my opinion. The curved shape of the brush does help provide lift and a decent curl to help your eyes look more awake but for me I would prefer a little more added volume as well. To get the look I wanted, I have applied about four coats which you can see in the photo above.

I found the formula to be quite wet but it does seem to dry quickly and I didn’t have any issues with it smudging throughout the day. I have been using it for a couple of weeks now and it has dried up a little so hopefully it will continue to get easier to work with. I always pick up the darkest shade, which in this case is ‘very black’, and I was pleased that it was very dark and gave my lashes a fab coat of intense colour.

I don’t think I would rush out to repurchase this mascara but if I saw it on offer again I would pick it up. For me, I have found it to be a decent high street mascara and good for the price (£7.99) but it hasn’t blown me away.

Have you tried the Maybelline Falsies Push Up Drama Mascara? What did you think of it?

Thanks for reading,

Hannah xx

  2. I am not a fan of Maybelline mascaras by default. I used to purchase them a lot in the past, and they never met my expectations. However, I do need a mascara that will lengthen my lashes, but I also need curl so I will most probably skip buying it. Your lashes look very good on the photo, but 4 coats - wow, that's pretty much!

    1. I agree four coats is a lot but I do tend to pile mascara on as I prefer really full lashes. For me this mascara lacked in the volume area so if you're looking for a product that does this more than lengthening I probably wouldn't recommend it x

  3. There have been so many mixed reviews on this so I never bother to give it a try. I did however repurchased Maybelline Lash Sensational and OMG, I am in love and I think I've finally found my HG mascara. It's so strange though as I remembered when I bought it when it was first launched, it was horrid! It was super wet and I had to wait for a month for the formula to dry down but this second purchase is perfect to use from the get-go! I swear Maybelline has changed the formula!

  4. I haven't used any of Maybelline's mascara in quite a few years, so I had no idea about this one. Based off your photo, you're right, it does make the lashes appear longer! I can see a bit of volume, not as much as I'm sure it claims; I hate that, when companies highly market something that doesn't quite hold up. Nonetheless, I think your lashes look amazing and you have such gorgeous skin, too, girlie! Thanks so much for sharing your honest thoughts with us and I hope you have the best weekend ahead!

  6. Sounds alright, but yeah, nothing mindblowing.

  7. I agree that it has made your lashes look longer rather than thicker, but they do look super long and lovely :) You should try Max Factor False Lash, that's the best high street one I've found for volume.

  8. @Shireen L. Platt This sounds great Shireen, thank you for the tip, I will definitely give the Lash Sensational mascara a try :) That is stange though, perhaps Maybelline realised where they were going wrong with it and decided to give it a bit of a secret revamp! x

  9. @Jalisa Giron Thank you Jalisa :) I have been making a bit more of an effort with my skin so hopefully it is starting to pay off. The volume isn't awful with this product but for me this mascara is much more of a lengthening one and I would always like one that gives a bit more volume as well. I hope you have a fab weekend! x

  10. @Aiko Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it :) I haven't tried many of the other Maybelline mascaras but a lot of people are recommending them to me so I'll have to give them a try :) x

  11. @Rachel-Beth Thank you :) I'll give the Max Factor one a try as I haven't used many of their mascaras before. I'm just always wary of my lashes looking long but thin and feel that I need a bit more of a helping hand in the volume department! x

  14. I haven't had much luck with high street brands either. I'd been using L'Oreal for a while, I can't remember which one but it was a red bottle lol. I changed it up to Charlotte Tilbury's legendary lashes which wasn't too bad, but I don't think it was amazing either. The brush is fantastic though, it doesn't clump lashes and has a nice way of really separating each one. For me I want volume which I don't really get with this one. I'm going to keep searching though, not sure which one to try next.

  15. It's great that you found the mascara not to smudge throughout the day, that's one the main selling-points to me when choosing mascaras. It looks fab on your lashes and provides a definite 'curl' effect. It's a pity it hasn't blown you away, though... plenty of other mascaras in the sea, right?! haha ;)

  16. @Rebecca Thank you, I'm glad you found the review helpful :) It's by no means perfect but for the price it isn't too bad and if you're looking to add length to your lashes rather than volume then it's worth giving it a try x

  17. @Shelleen It is really good at separating the lashes so if that's the main thing you are looking for from a mascara then it may be worth giving it a go :) x

  18. @sonia de macedo I haven't tried the Charlotte Tilbury one but I'm sure it isn't cheap so if it's not that great then I may give it a miss. One of my favourite mascaras is Lancome Hypnose Drama which is great for adding both length and volume but unfortunately it is a little pricey x

  19. @Gabrielle Haha, definitely plenty more mascaras in the sea to try :) Certainly too many to settle for one that you're not quite sure about anyway. It really does stay put throughout the day so you may like this one if that's one of the main things you look for. It's by no means a terrible mascara but just needs to add more volume for me. x

  20. I have been curious about this mascara since I am a mascara junkie. It looks great on your lashes and provides a curl effect but it's a shame it didn't blown you away. Great review!

    1. I think it's one that has got better as it has dried up. It's just a shame it didn't add more volume as I could have really seen myself loving it if it did :) x
