Revlon ColorStay Foundation Review

Hi everyone,

I have tried many high street foundations in the past which I have really liked but for some reason I have never stuck with one or found one which I prefer over some of my higher end foundations. The search has continued as it’s expensive to keep paying out for the likes of Nars Sheer Glow and Estée Lauder Double Wear and I’m convinced there must be a cheaper alternative that I like just as much.

Most recently my search has brought me to Revlon’s ColorStay foundation as it was one that I had seen popping up on a few blogs and people were always fairly positive about it. I like that there are two formulas available in this foundation, one for oily / combination skin and one for dry skin, as this makes much more sense to me when I think about it than having one that’s meant to do for everyone. I was a bit undecided which to go for as my skin used to be very oily but in the last few years it has changed quite a bit and is becoming a lot drier. In the end I plumped for the oily / combination skin option though as staying power is a huge issue for me and my logic was that the one for oily skin could potentially last longer before sliding off.

I have been using this foundation for a couple of weeks now and I have to say I am impressed. The staying power is probably the best I have come across from a high street foundation and I can go all day at work without powdering mid-way through and it still looks pretty good when I get home. With a lot of my foundations, even Double Wear, I do from time to time like to apply a couple of layers to get a really flawless finish. I wouldn’t recommend that with this foundation as I did find it to look rather cakey if I put too much on and very flat. It has a really matte finish so I much prefer it when I use something like the Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector underneath or the Soap & Glory Glow All Out powder over the top just to give my skin a bit of life.

I have had issues with blending my foundations in recently which has been a bit strange. I’m wondering if it because I have been using more moisturiser than normal due to the really dry patches I’ve been getting but I have been trying to leave as much time as possible for it to sink in before applying any makeup. I have had a lot less problems with this foundation than I have with others though and I have been able to buff it in using my Real Techniques Buffing Brush to get a really nice finish. I would say it provides medium coverage which is perfect for me as I prefer having more coverage when it comes to my foundation, although I could see that this teamed with the matte finish might not be to everyone’s taste.

I’m glad Revlon decided to add a pump with this foundation as it is just so much easier to control the amount you are using. I can’t tell you how much product I have wasted in the past using foundations that you have to pour out and it’s just so messy and goes everywhere. I have been using about one pump to cover my entire face and find that’s the perfect amount for me.

Overall I’m really glad that I tried this foundation and have been using it every day since I bought it. I don’t usually stick with high street foundations and even though I find ones I like, I always end up going back to others in my collection so this one must be doing something right!

Have you tried the Revlon ColourStay foundation? Which is your favourite high street foundation?

Thanks for reading,

Hannah xx

  1. This seems to be one of the best matte foundations from the drugstores but I never tried it because I personally am not a fan of matte finishes. And yes, adding a pump to this has been of the best decisions Revlon made. No idea why they didn't make it with a pump previously, it's way better.

    1. I agree, I think I would prefer it if it had a bit more glow to it so I wouldn't have to apply so many other products to try and achieve the look. A pump is always a good idea and just saves so much product and mess as well! :) x

  2. I have been wanting to get back to trying some drugstore foundations again. Do you know if that shade in particular leans more yellow or pink? It looks like a great foundation to try out from the drugstore:)

    1. I'd say it leans more yellow than pink but it's not as yellow as Nars Sheer Glow for example. It really is one of the best high street foundations I've tried :) x

  4. Ooo I've been looking for a new foundation to try and this looks like a good one, I hope they do a shade light enough for my skin. I've been using the No7 Superlight Foundation for a year or so but looking for a change :) x

    1. I'm pretty pale atm and have been using the shade Buff but there is one lighter than that called Ivory so hopefully they'll be one to suit your skin tone :) I haven't tried any of the No.7 foundations but I know my mum really likes them, are they any good? x

Oooo I might have a look at the Ivory one :) Yeah I've had no problems at all with the No7 ones, I have the shade Calico and they do a concealer to match the shade too which has amazing coverage :) x
